about

A gloomy split release for the late nights, uniting four insistent tracks from Rolf Laureijs, and two rather unsettling ones from Laurin Huber.

Side A:
Laureijs’ snare-less techno acts as the soundtrack for the world’s dimliest-lit dancefloors. Pounding kick drums keep pushing, steadily leading the listener towards the darkest hours of the night. While the drums provide the rigid backbone of the four tracks, the immaculate synth work elevates them to mood music in the best sense of the term.

Side B:
File under: ambient music not suited to relax nor study to. Over a runtime of 17 minutes, the two tracks never hazard to fade into the background. Case in point: Side B’s title track “Pilgrim State” is a multi-phased, prickly and percussive affair. By the end of the track, it has fully enveloped the listener in the forest-y atmosphere of an alien planet.
